MEET THE BOARD
Research Health Scientist at Veterans Emergency Management Evaluation Center (VEMEC). She develops resources to ensure that community-based organizations (CBOs) serving vulnerable populations are disaster resilient. She led a federal team in developing Disaster Preparedness to Promote Community Resilience, a toolkit to help communities address the disaster needs of people experiencing homelessness. She is currently developing a manual to guide homeless service providers in disaster planning.
Dr. Gin’s published research focuses on disaster preparedness in homeless shelters and transitional housing agencies, and the role of CBOs in supporting homeless disaster response and recovery. She is also publishing work exploring homeless serving CBOs’ experiences during the 2017-2018 California wildfires.
Prior to joining VA, Dr. Gin served as research and community outreach manager at the Bay Area Preparedness Initiative (BayPrep), an initiative of the Fritz Institute and San Francisco Community Agencies Responding to Disasters (SF CARD). She managed an outreach program to increase the disaster preparedness of CBOs serving vulnerable populations. She currently serves on SF CARD’s Board of Directors.
Dr. Gin received her PhD in Environmental Justice from the University of Michigan's School of Natural Resources and Environment, and her MA in Public Policy from Claremont Graduate University.
Greg has served on the board of Directors for SF CARD since its creation as a 501c non-profit corporation in 2013 and served as President of the Board from 2016 – 2019. Greg was Director of Operations and before that Director of Facilities, at Jewish Family and Children’s Services in San Francisco from 200 – 2021. During that time, he was responsible for the JFCS Disaster Preparedness and Response Program and had JFCS join several disaster preparedness networking organizations in addition to SF CARD, including Sonoma COAD, Marin VOAD, SF VOAD, and CADRE in the Peninsula.
Recently retired from JFCS, Greg now consults as an Owner’s representative / Project Manager on construction and remodeling projects. Currently, he is working on projects for JFCS and the Rhoda Goldman Plaza Assisted Living Center.
